I am interested in how the accidental meets the intentional; how materials can be layered one upon another to reveal surprises, to make and conceal secrets; how line, color and texture mingle on a surface as moods.
I am also intrigued by the saturation of color beneath wax; the interplay of ink, paper and wax.
I appreciate the industry and the meditative qualities of making one shape over and over again.
Recently I've been making variations on one color on an increasingly larger scale (4"x 4" pieces to 30" x30").
I have made books on and off for 20 plus years. As a bookworm and writer, I took to making books as soon as I realized I could. In some ways, I consider my paintings and collages to be pages from books no one else can see. Much of my visual art spawns from my writing.
My work is in numerous private and public collections around the country including The Getty Center for the History of Art and the Humanities, Stanford University, Princeton University, Smith College, and The University of Vermont.
